Pre-Season Outlook: Atlanta Braves

Batting Order: The Braves have a deep lineup, without sacrificing a spot for salary concerns. The stars of the team are found in the 3 and 4 slots, with MLB Showdown 2000 poster boy Chipper Jones and stud hitter Andres Galarraga. The Braves are also counting on a breakout campaign from Martin Prado, poised in the #2 hole to put up both runs and RBIs this season. Andrew Jones is another potential all star. Lineup bookends Bourn and Furcal are both major stolen base threats, making this offense multi-demensional and extremely potent.

Rotation: Another NL East team, another great cadre of arms. While they aren't the Phillies, Atlanta still has the talent to pitch their way into the postseason. Expect John Smoltz to have an especially big year in the #3 spot while Tim Hudson is a formidable ace. Maddux may give up a lot of singles, but a high-ish WHIP will be a small sacrifice for what should be a season full of Ws and low on ERA.

Bullpen: Kimbrel and O'Flaherty hold down the fort for the Braves, both are stud relievers. The Atlanta Chad Durbin is much more useful than the Indians' version, but he'll still be used sparingly here. Expect Craig to wrack up a lot of saves.

Overall: The Braves are a surefire playoff contender. While their odds of winning the division aren't ideal (see Philadelphia Phillies), they've got enough offensive firepower and pitching prowess to contend for the wild card. Unfortunately for Atlanta, the NL East is going to be very competitive for second place, but they've got the ability to stay afloat and in the hunt throughout the season.
