Pre-Season Outlook: Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim

Batting Order: The Angels followed the advice of the Georgian General Michael Doudna, who famously said, "always bat your best player second." While tradition disagrees with him, that's exactly what the Angels did, creating one of the best 1-2 punches at the top of the order. Troy Glaus brings plus power from the 3 hole and Pujols (while disappointing as an Angel) remains a doubles machine in the clean-up spot. Howie Kendrick is a dynamic hitter who could move up as the season progresses. Expect a lot of stolen bases and home runs from this collection of speedsters and sluggers.

Rotation: Clearly the best in the division and up there with the Red Sox for the best in the AL. Weaver, Haren, and Grienke form a fantastic big three. Fan favorite Chuck Finley is a solid #4 as well, especially considering his occasionally weak AL West counterparts. This staff could have a couple Cy Young contenders emerge if all goes well, forming the backbone to the argument that the Angels are a playoff team.

Bullpen: The definite weakness of the team, as they lack a standout, shut-down closer. However, they've got four arms to rotate between and are overall fairly solid. The lack of any high controls is worrisome, as surrendering a chart late in the game could be brutal. Expect Scott Downs to eventually find his way into the closer role.

Overall: The co-favorite with Texas to win the West, the Angels appear to be the division's most balanced ball club. With a good offense led by an MVP frontrunner and a stacked rotation, expect the Angels to be near the top of the standings all season long.
